With the success of our Cedar Chest Boutique thrift shops and the need to create more jobs, TARC established the Cedar Chest Donation Center and Donation Pick-Up Crews to support the demands at our current Cedar Chest retail locations.

Cedar Chest Donation Center
Once the donations from the community and donation crews are received, workers at the Cedar Chest Donation Center sort the items into resellable, salvageable, or non-reusable categories. This component offers meaningful work opportunities to individuals with limited mobility.
An equally important benefit of this business unit is being able to recycle textile products. Millions of pounds of textile products are tossed into landfills across the United States each year. By re-wearing and reusing clothes, we save precious natural resources, reduce pollution, and prevent the emission of climate-changing greenhouse gases. The production of raw materials and the manufacturing of new clothes are resource- and energy-intensive processes. So every item of clothing saved is a big benefit for the planet.

Cedar Chest Donation Crew
Every Monday through Friday, our Cedar Chest Donation Crew services the Terrebonne Parish locations of Cedar Chest stores, TARC’s Donation Center, and the RED donation bins daily. Donations from the bins are delivered to both the Donation Center and the Cedar Chest stores. Our Donation Crews also make prearranged residential and commercial pickups, then deliver these donations to a predetermined store or the Donation Center as space allows.
These crews also load all salvage bags (items that can’t be sold) into the salvage trailer, for which Cedar Chest receives payment from a third-party vendor for the recycled poundage.
