Transportation Manager

The Transportation Manager supports the Transportation Director and provides leadership and direction to the transportation drivers and floaters by exercising independent judgment and discretion in order to successfully execute agency strategies, applicable laws and regulations.  This position must exude excitement, professional presence and confidence needed to protect and drive TARC’s integrity.  This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to act with great integrity and business maturity, build trust, be approachable, listen to others, drive and manage change, and ensure that all business is conducted without bias or prejudice.  This position drives results through creative short-term plans and long-term strategies, and processes that create a positive environment for both the staff and participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and coordinates all bus routing.
  • Opens department and at times closes department.
  • Supervises bus drivers in the Transportation Department.
  • Receives and resolves client/care giver complaints.
  • Researches special adaptive devices to be used when needed in transporting individuals with special needs.
  • Evaluates performance of drivers in accordance with Terrebonne ARC operating policies and procedures.  This includes annual drive a longs on each driver.
  • Prepares reports as requested by the Director of Transportation/Maintenance/Supply.
  • Recommends and assists in developing policies within Transportation Department.
  • Defines, recommends and fulfills all short and long term goals as set forth by the Director of

Transportation/Maintenance/Supply that are within budgetary parameters.  Develops and recommends specific short term and long term plans and programs, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates, to the Director of Transportation/Maintenance/Supply.

  • Assists in Researching cost control reports, cost estimates, and manpower and facilities requirements forecasts.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments of Terrebonne ARC in establishing and carrying out responsibilities and transportation division.
  • Securement of client medication according to Terrebonne ARC policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for issuing all mileage logs to designated personnel monthly.
  • Adheres to and ensures that staff adheres to Terrebonne ARC safety policies and maintains and clean and safe work area.
  • Maintains client and employee confidentiality with in Terrebonne ARC policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all Terrebonne ARC policies and procedures.
  • Conducts and/or participates in training as required.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings.
  • Responsible for obtaining licenses of vehicles and ensuring that all drivers have their CDL        License upon hire.
  • Establishes efficient bus routes with continual reassessment of the routes, and client needs.
  • Monitors fuel tanks, and monitoring wells and orders appropriate amount of fuel.
    • Monitors Fuelman expense reports, write requisitions when needed and adds and deletes vehicle and personnel cards.

 MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews and approves the efficient implementation and organization of transportation division.
  • Establishes objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities.
  • Selects and maintains qualified personnel for all positions reporting directly to the Transportation Manager.
  • Maintains appropriate communication with areas of responsibility.
  • Keeps employees informed as to Terrebonne ARC plans and progress.
  • Coordinates transportation activities of assigned divisions within all departments at Terrebonne ARC.
  • Makes recommendations for improving effectiveness of policies and procedures.

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Provides orientation and on the job training for drivers and floaters and ensures that the authority and responsibilities are defined and understood.

  • Ensures that duties, responsibilities, authority and accountability of all staff within the division are defined and understood.
  • Infrequently lifting of up to 40 lbs. without assistance and over 40 lbs. with assistance.
  • Assumes other activities and responsibilities as needed.
  • Available for emergencies as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing.

 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor level preferred, high school diploma required.

  • Sound administration skills, well developed management skills – principals and people.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel.
  • Have at least two (2) years of route driving experience.
  • Have experience in developing/training in the transportation field.
  • Have computer program operation skills.
  • Must have a Louisiana class “B” or higher CDL with no air brakes restriction and a passenger/school bus endorsement.
