SUNSHINE EXPRESS
EARLY CARE & EDUCATION
CENTER is founded on the basic philosophy of providing
quality care and education for all children. The State of Louisiana
Bureau of Licensing licenses this Class-A Day Care Center. It provides
a full-inclusion program offering developmentally appropriate care
to all children participating. It is our purpose to provide an educational
setting involving a special degree of support to develop and enrich
each student's self-esteem, self-confidence, values, morals, and
knowledge for personal development.
Quality Start Rating System
Quality Start is a voluntary program for licensed centers designed to increase the quality of early learning for all children throughout Louisiana. To be eligible for star ratings, the center must meet all federal and state guidelines and pass evaluations performed by the Quality Start Program. Louisiana provides a refundable tax credit to eligible centers including parents of children who attend a 2 or more star awarded center. It increases the quality of early childhood education and gives children a solid foundation for formal schooling. Sunshine Express is a 2-star rating system and will continue working toward the goals set forth by the Louisiana Quality Start Program.
Day to Day
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided to meet the
nutritional needs of the children. Music Therapy is provided for all
children weekly. Staff to child ratio remains low to allow the
staff time to provide adequate care for each child's special needs.
The children are grouped according to developmental needs rather than
chronological age. Staff is continuously trained in developmentally
appropriate practices and they promote self-esteem and self-confidence
through strategies and activities geared toward independence with
all individuals participating.
Communication
Monthly newsletters, including the goals and objectives
of each area are distributed to every parent. Calendars are also prepared
for each child and parent. The calendars offer suggestions that parents
can do at home to enhance the developmental areas being taught at
that time. Parent Conference Night is held twice a year to discuss
children's progress and to set goals and objectives.
Research shows that children with disabilities seem
to benefit from inclusion, particularly in relation to developmental
and social skills. Sunshine Express has successfully helped children
with and without disabilities reach high levels of competency. Children
are stimulated to relate their lessons to real life situations that
will prepare them for survival inside and outside of the classroom.
