Cedar Chest Processing
With the success of our Cedar Chest Boutique thrift shops and the need to create more jobs, TARC created the Cedar Chest Processing Center and Donation Pick-Up Crew to help support the demands at the current Cedar Chest retail locations.
Cedar Chest Donation Crew
Every Monday-Friday, our Cedar Chest Donation Crew collects daily donations from the RED donation bins around Terrebonne Parish.
Cedar Chest Processing Center
Once receiving the donations from the community and donation crew, workers at the Chest Processing Center sort the donations into resellable items, salvage items, or garbage. This component provides meaningful work to individuals who have limited mobility.
An equally important benefit of this business unit is being able to recycle textile products. Millions of pounds of textile products are tossed into landfills across the United States each year. By re-wearing and reusing clothes we save precious natural resources, reduce pollution, and prevent the emission of climate changing greenhouse gases. The raw material production and manufacturing of new clothes is a resource and energy intensive process. So every item of clothing saved is a big benefit for the planet.
Cedar Chest Donation Bins
These bins are for clothing donations and will support employment for 31 individuals with disabilities. This number includes both crews at Cedar Chest (East) and Cedar Chest (West), the new Sorting and Processing unit on campus, and the mobile crew to pick up the donations.
